This is my frustration- not about “liberal” vs “conservative”, but the attitude that its ok to violate others rights as long as it either saves me $ or makes me $. When did we become so uncaring about our fellow human beings?
I've been around a few years longer than you (I'm 70), but I agree with you completely and am very ashamed of the members of my generation who act this way.
We shouldn't have to explain it to these "Christians" how to care for others. It should be taught to them when they read their BIBLES.
Debated this with Republican family and friends and they believe their family first which is an honest and good answer, but then they want to prioritize who else can have what and when. Sometimes the response it that this particular group or segment of people in America don't deserve anything at all. That also applies to peoples of other nations. How do you teach empathy and compassion or equality and justice for all?
We have been manipulated for eons to believe the falsehood that there isn’t enough to go around, a sort of eternal shortage mentality. Human greed is a very base emotion, and one that is easy to activate in others using fear tactics.
Yeah I'm tired of "I've made my hard earned money and I don't want some lazy person taking what doesn't belong to them." Seriously not much of our tax money goes towards these things (see military). And in most cases it's not because you worked hard and someone else is lazy, seeing it that way is seeing "fake news."
A million times yes! Republicans are like spoiled children unwilling to share their toys and deathly offended anyone should ask that they do. They are so preturbed that someone might receive benefits they do not deserve that they are contented to see the needy go without. I know it's irrational and based on the fear of losing what they have but it's so immoral and so unchristian. I wish they could understand that they have already won the game of life and it is not important that other people lose for their victory to mean something.
Trump and the Republicans have effectively thrown battery acid on America and the scars America must bear will remain for generations to come. They are the real terrorists.
I encourage everyone to check out the book "The Nordic Theory of Everything" - an excellent, critical analysis of the fundamental, philosophical differences between how Scandinavians approach these issues vs how we do here in the US. It's a great read and eye-opening, and very objective.
I don’t think this is a new thing. My family was alway politically very right wing. To that notation they allowed my brother to remain homeless and eventually lose some fingers and toes during a winter cold snap. He was schizophrenic, and they felt it would best serve him and the lord if learned his lessons the hard way. Fundamentalism is a legitimate sickness. They have no compassion for so called sinners or people who are different. They are the unspoken cancer of our society. American right wing evangelical Christians are destroying our rights and people. Take it from someone who spent all of my formative years in bible camps and churches. They will allow there own children to die in the streets in the name of religion. I just think now more than ever it is being allowed to be expressed more violently. Count me in to help my fellow man, not because I fear hell but because I have seen so many go through it.
